Virus is quite different from other organisms since they have unique characteristics. VIRUS CAN ONLY LIVE INSIDE LIVING HOST CELLS (they are inert outside living host cells). The distinctive features of viruses are :
- Contain single type of nucleic acid, either DNA or RNA
- Contain protein coat that surrounds the nucleic acid
- Multiply inside living cells by using synthesizing machinery of the host cell
The general morphology of virus are the helical viruses, polyhedral viruses, enveloped viruses and complex viruses. Outer surface of virus interact with specific receptor sites on surface of potential host cell. Nucleic acid is protected by a protein coat called capsid and each capsid is composed of protein subunits called capsomeres. In some virus, capsid is covered by an envelope.
On Friday, almost half of our classmates are going for BAKSIS project. There was no formal lecture on that day. Dr. Wan asked us to find a video (about our chosen topic) on the you tube and we have to create some questions based on that video by using Edpuzzle apps. That is a new for me! Such a cool apps!
That's all, thank you~
