Last class with Dr. Wan T.T

Hello everyone! This might be my last post about 'What I have learnt in Microbiology class' for this semester. Last Friday which is yesterday, I learnt about the Control of Microbial Growth. This lecture was very long. Exactly 3 hours without any funny stories from Dr. Wan. Only lecture. For the first hour I was okay but at the end I have lost my attention. I think it has reached the limit hahahaha. So basically, there are 4 types of microbial control methods which are physical agents, chemical agents, mechanical removal methods and biological agents.

Physical agents
  • Heat
  • Filtration
  • Radiation

Chemical agents
  • Disinfection
  • Antisepsis
  • Sterilization

Mechanical removal methods
  • Filtration

Biological agents
  • Predator
  • Virus
  • Toxin

For the topic of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, I have learnt about what is chemotherapeutic agents, the development of chemotherapy, general characteristics of antimicrobial drugs and determining the level of antimicrobial activity. Some of the examples of general characteristics of antimicrobial drugs are cidal agent, static agent and side effects.

Throughout this chapter, we will know some of the techniques or methods to observe the growth rate of certain bacteria on specific medium. Antimicrobial drugs are used as inhibitors of cell wall synthesis (eg penicillin), protein synthesis inhibitors (eg tetracyclines), metabolic antagonists (eg sulfonamides) and nucleic acid synthesis inhibition (eg quinolones).

I think that's all from me. This semester was really great. I had a lot of fun with my coursemates and Dr. Wan. Dr. Wan, thank you so much for teaching me. You are the best lecturer I have ever found in my life. Forgive all my mistakes. Halal-kan all the foods that you brought to the class during lecture time. They are all delicious. Thanks for everything, Dr :') I will miss you definitely. Love you Dr!
