Microbial Metabolism and Nutrition

Hi everyone! I would like to share about what I have learned last Friday. The class started early in the morning, 8.15am. We are having our replacement class on that day and the class ended at 11.30pm. I learned about Microbial Metabolism and Nutrition. Sounds interesting right? Yes! Its really fun!

At first, we are asked to make 30 terms and their definitions as flashcards on quizlet.com then we have to make 6 questions based on that topic. For my group, group 8, we made the questions in crossword form. To make the questions is not difficult but the most difficult part is this is our first time making questions in crossword puzzle! Its quite hard to handle. But we made it at the end! :)

After we answered some questions from other group, we go through the topic. Metabolism can be defined as the sum of all chemical reactions within the cell. The process of metabolism can be 2 parts which are catabolic and anabolic. Catabolic reactions is the breakdown of complex substrates and release of energy. Anabolic reactions is the building of complex organic molecules from simpler ones.

The components of enzyme are apoenzyme (protein portion), cofactor (nonprotein component) and holoenzyme (active enzyme). Enzymes are very specific. Factors that influence the enzymatic activity are temperature, pH, concentrations and inhibitors. Next part is, respirations. Actually, it is one of my favourite subtopic during my matriculation time and now I have to recall back all those things. Dr. Wan will continue the lecture on the next class. So that's all from me this time. Bye!
